EVSU Ignites 21st Charter Celebration with Focus on Climate Action, Resiliency

TACLOBAN, Leyte – Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU)  Carigara Campus joined the official launching of the  21st Charter Celebration on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, with a Charter Celebration Grand Opening at the EVSU-Main Campus, Tacloban City. The event, which runs until September 5, is centered on the theme “One EVSU 2.0: Stronger Together for Resiliency and Climate Action” and features a diverse lineup of activities designed to promote unity, sustainability, and community engagement.

The celebration commenced with a Thanksgiving Mass, followed by an opening program that emphasized the university’s commitment to addressing pressing environmental and social issues. University President Dr. Dennis C. De Paz, University President, highlighted the importance of the university’s proactive role in building a more resilient and sustainable future for the region.

A Week of Purpose-Driven Events

The multi-day celebration will host a variety of events aligned with its central theme. The Opening of the Kadiwa and the Organization’s Booth Fair will provide platforms for showcasing local products and student-led initiatives. A Bloodletting Activity is scheduled to promote community health, while the VPAA’s Day and the Office of the Research and Extension Day will highlight academic and research advancements within the university.

The celebration also includes events that recognize excellence and foster camaraderie. The EVSUNISTA Awards and the State of the University President Address will honor outstanding achievements and provide an overview of the university’s progress. The Mr. and Ms. EVSU pageant, along with INDAK at HIMIG, will showcase student talent and creativity.

Sports and Cultural Showcases

Athletic and cultural events are a significant part of the celebration. The President’s Cup Tournament for volleyball and basketball will promote sportsmanship and healthy competition among students. The KanYaw Festival will be a vibrant showcase of local culture, traditions, and artistry, celebrating the rich heritage of Eastern Visayas.

The festivities will conclude with the University Students’ Welcome & Gathering (USWAG), an event dedicated to fostering a sense of belonging among new students and strengthening the bonds of the EVSU community. These activities reflect the university’s holistic approach to education, combining academic pursuits with social responsibility and personal development.
