CARIGARA, LEYTE—Dr. Renato E. Martija, Campus Director of the Eastern Visayas State University – Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC), has initiated a series of courtesy calls to municipal mayors and community leaders to strengthen partnerships with local government units (LGUs). The visits, which included various EVSU-CC department heads and coordinators, are part of the university’s strategy to enhance collaboration and community engagement.
Dr. Martija and his team met with several officials, including Carigara Municipal Mayor Hon. Eduardo T. Ong Jr., Barugo Municipal Mayor Hon. Aron C. Balais, and Tunga Municipal Mayor Hon. Reinbert C. Costelo. The EVSU-CC team also engaged with Hon. Arsenio B. Dacoycoy, the Barangay Chairman of Barugohay Norte, where the campus is located.
Discussions during the courtesy calls reportedly revolved around potential collaborative projects, including community-based research, skills training for residents, and the development of programs that can address local challenges, such as climate and hazard mitigation. The university, through its various departments, has been actively involved in community outreach programs and projects and sees the LGUs as vital partners in expanding its reach and impact.
EVSU-CC’s outreach to the municipal mayors is a crucial step in fostering a stronger working relationship between the university and its surrounding communities. The efforts are expected to lead to joint initiatives that will provide mutual benefits for both the university and the residents of the municipalities served by EVSU-CC.
