CARIGARA, LEYTE — A timely coincidence brought together the Eastern Visayas State University – Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC) Infrastructure Development Office and the Carigara Municipal Engineering Office (MEO) on the same day of October 21, 2025 for separate inspections of the university’s buildings and facilities.
The EVSU Infrastructure Development Office team, led by Arch. Bernie G. Tudio, visited the campus to conduct its internal infrastructure assessment. At the same time, the MEO team, headed by Municipal Engineer Evelyn Reyes, also arrived to perform an inspection.
The Inspection Team were assisted by Loise Ada L. Reyes, Head of the Planning and Maintenance Unit and Engr. Leo De Guzman, Gender and Development Coordinator. The parallel visits were scheduled primarily for a crucial post-assessment of campus structures following a series of recent earthquakes that have affected parts of the Philippines, including Leyte province.
Focus on Structural Integrity
While the inspections were not a formally planned joint effort, the simultaneous presence of the university’s technical experts and the local government’s engineering team allowed for comprehensive monitoring of building conditions. Both teams focused on checking the structural integrity and stability of key campus infrastructure to ensure student and public safety in the wake of the seismic activity.
The EVSU-CC’s internal team assessed the needs for long-term repairs and development, while the MEO focused on ensuring the university’s compliance with local building codes and standards, especially in light of the recent tremors. The results from both independent inspections will inform the necessary actions and repairs to safeguard the campus facilities.
