Carigara, Leyte – The Eastern Visayas State University – Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC) officially launched its “18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women (VAW)” with a Kick-Off Program held during the Flag Ceremony on Monday, November 25, 2025. The campaign, which runs through December 12, 2025, is led by the EVSU-CC’s Gender and Development (GAD) Office and coordinated by Engr. Leo De Guzman. The initiative is part of the national observance to raise widespread awareness and mobilize action against gender-based violence.
The 18-day campaign is anchored in promoting and upholding key national laws that protect women’s rights, including Republic Act No. 9710 (Magna Carta of Women) and Republic Act No. 9262 (Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004). Engr. De Guzman emphasized that the program is a vital demonstration of the campus’s commitment to gender equality and human rights.
Highlighting the institution’s commitment to a safe and inclusive environment, EVSU-CC Campus Director Dr. Renato E. Martija delivered a strong message. Dr. Martija stressed the importance of women “not only in community development but as well as nation-building,” emphasizing their crucial role in the country’s progress. The GAD Office has scheduled a series of activities over the campaign period focused on educating students, faculty, and staff about the various forms of VAW, its impact, and the legal remedies and support services available to victims. The campaign reinforces the institution’s stand against all forms of gender-based violence and its dedication to fostering a safe and empowering environment for all its members.
