March 28, 2025 – The Eastern Visayas State University-Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC), under the leadership of Campus Director Dr. Mary P. Yanger and through the initiative of the Extension Services Office headed by Instructor Amelita A. Ariza, recently conducted two consecutive extension activities in the municipalities of Tunga and Barugo, Leyte.
In Barugo, Leyte, the extension activity “Writing, Reading, Interview, and Techniques for Employment” (WRITE) was conducted as part of the Project Practical Language for Employment Preparatory (PLEP). This initiative is anchored on the Program EMPOWERED (Empowering Education in Collaboration with Empowering ALS Learners Through the E-BE-CS Program). The primary beneficiaries were students from the Alternative Learning System (ALS), with the goal of equipping them with essential skills for future employment opportunities and ensuring sustainability after completing their ALS education.
Meanwhile, in Tunga, Leyte, an extension activity “Training on Marketing and Commercialization of Business” was conducted, focusing on women beneficiaries from the community. This initiative was part of the Project Leverage Investment through Venture and Empowerment (L.I.V.E.), which falls under the Program Community Holistic Engagement for Empowering Rural and Urban People (C.H.E.E.R. U.P.). The training aimed to empower women and reduce economic inequalities by enhancing their skills and opportunities in business and entrepreneurship.
These initiatives underscore the university’s commitment to empowering local communities through education, skills training, and collaborative efforts. The back-to-back activities not only highlighted EVSU-CC’s dedication to its extension services but also reinforced its role as a catalyst for positive change in the region.
