CARIGARA, LEYTE – Faculty members of Eastern Visayas State University – Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC) took a significant step toward enhancing inclusive and effective teaching practices after participating in a specialized training led by a veteran educator from New York City on Tuesday, August 5, 2025.

Dr. Reynaldo Garnace, a Special Education Generalist from the New York City Department of Education and Cooperative General Manager of the United Federation of Filipino-American Educators, Inc., conducted the seminar titled “Inclusive Education: Exploring the Interplay of Engagement, Achievement, and Equity.”

Drawing from over three decades of experience in the U.S. education system, Dr. Garnace equipped EVSU faculty with new pedagogical strategies, tools for fostering inclusive classrooms, and approaches to integrating technology for improved student engagement.

“Learning from educators with a different background and system opened my eyes to new possibilities in the classroom,” said Instructor Amelita A. Ariza, one of the participants. “The methods we learned are practical and adaptable to our local context, especially in creating more inclusive learning environments.”

The training was spearheaded by EVSU-CC’s Research and Development Office under the leadership of Instructor Ma. Theresa Salamida. It forms part of the university’s broader thrust toward continuous professional development and fostering global academic linkages.

University officials expressed optimism that this initiative will pave the way for more international collaborations aimed at raising academic standards and expanding opportunities for both faculty and students across the Eastern Visayas region.
