Capoocan, Leyte – On September 20, 2025, Eastern Visayas State University (EVSU) Carigara Campus partnered with the Municipal Environmental and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) of Capoocan, Leyte, for an International Coastal Cleanup Day drive which took place at the coastal area of Barangay Cabul-an.
The event evidently showcased active participation from EVSU Carigara faculty members namely Gaudencio Fernandez, Teodora Arlene T. Cebu, Jean A. Medino, Amelita A. Ariza, Roan N. Merelos and Mark Glenn O. Narido and students from the Bachelor of Science in Fisheries (BS Fisheries) program’s FISH Organization. The group collected a significant amount of waste and debris, contributing to a global movement to protect marine ecosystems and promote sustainable coastal management.
This cleanup drive not only helped to restore the local shoreline but also strengthened the partnership between EVSU Carigara and the Capoocan local community in addressing important environmental issues. International Coastal Cleanup Day is an annual worldwide campaign that mobilizes volunteers to combat marine pollution and advocate for a cleaner, healthier environment for people and wildlife.
