CARIGARA, LEYTE — The Eastern Visayas State University – Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC) recently concluded a successful blood-letting activity in partnership with the Eastern Visayas Medical Center (EVMC) from Tacloban City.
The event, which was spearheaded by the EVSU-CC Medical and Dental Section and led by Campus Nurse Bonita Shigella F. Cotoner, took place at the EVSU-CC gymnasium. It drew a large turnout of volunteer donors, including students, faculty, and staff. The initiative aimed to boost the local blood bank’s supply and raise awareness about the critical need for voluntary blood donation.
Medical professionals from the EVMC-Blood Bank Unit worked closely with the Campus Nurse to ensure the safety and proper handling of all procedures. Donors were given a brief medical screening before their blood was collected.
Dr. Renato E. Martija, Campus Director of EVSU-CC, expressed his gratitude to the donors and the EVMC team. “This partnership with EVMC is crucial for helping our community and saving lives. We hope to make this a regular event on our campus,” he said.
The donated blood will be processed and stored at the EVMC Blood Bank in Tacloban City, where it will be available for emergency transfusions, surgeries, and other medical treatments. This blood drive is part of EVSU-CC’s ongoing commitment to civic engagement and community service, fostering a culture of giving among its members.
