CARIGARA, Leyte – Promoting social responsibility and community welfare, the Eastern Visayas State University-Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC) Extension Services Office, in partnership with the Holy Cross College of Carigara (HCCC) Batch 1993, conducted a gift-giving activity for Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDL) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Carigara on Wednesday, December 23, 2025.
The community outreach program provided essential supplies and emotional support to inmates, underscoring the university’s commitment to extending its services to marginalized sectors of society.
Collaborative Service
The initiative was spearheaded by the EVSU-CC Extension Services Office, led by Amelita A. Ariza, MAED, in close coordination with members of HCCC Batch 1993. The group pooled resources to distribute gift packs containing hygiene kits and basic necessities.
EVSU-CC Campus Director Renato E. Martija emphasized the deeper purpose behind the mission. “This activity is more than just giving gifts; it is about acknowledging the humanity of our brothers and sisters behind bars,” Martija said. “Through this partnership with HCCC Batch 1993, we hope to bring a sense of hope and belonging to the PDL.”
Boosting Morale
BJMP Carigara officials expressed profound gratitude for the gesture, noting that such visits significantly boost the morale and mental well-being of the PDLs. Beyond the distribution of goods, volunteers engaged with the inmates through a short program featuring words of encouragement and solidarity.
Representatives from HCCC Batch 1993 described the activity as a “giving back” initiative for their hometown, highlighting that education and community service are inseparable values.
The event concluded with a shared sense of fulfillment, serving as a testament to the power of community partnerships in fostering compassion and social inclusivity during the holiday season.
