Tunga, Leyte — The Eastern Visayas State University-Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC) celebrated the successful completion of Project Leverage Investment through Venture and Empowerment (LIVE) with a culmination ceremony held on July 15, 2025, at the 3rd Floor of the Tunga Municipal Hall.
The event recognized the efforts and achievements of women from Barangay San Pedro who completed a series of life-skills and livelihood training sessions from December 2024 to March 2025. The project, designed to equip unemployed women with practical and income-generating skills, is part of the university’s broader community development initiative, Community Holistic Engagement for Empowering Rural and Urban People (C.H.E.E.R. U.P.).
Certificates of completion, tokens of appreciation, and special awards were distributed during the ceremony. Attending the event were the empowered women beneficiaries, the Project LIVE team, Barangay San Pedro Chairperson, and Tunga Municipal Mayor Engr. Reinbert C. Costelo.
In his keynote address, Mayor Costelo praised the women’s dedication and underscored the long-term impact of their newly acquired skills.
“I hope the training you received becomes not just useful in your daily life, but also sustainable. As you grow personally, you also contribute to the economic progress of our town,” he remarked.
Project LIVE is spearheaded by Project Leader Dr. Anabelle T. Cerezo under the guidance of Extension Services Office Head Amelita A. Ariza, MAEd. The initiative supports several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN-SDGs), including SDG 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), SDG 10 (Reduced Inequalities), and SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities).
This culmination highlights EVSU-CC’s unwavering commitment to inclusive and community-driven development. By actively engaging with local government units and grassroots communities, the university continues to fulfill its mission of empowering people and fostering social transformation through education, innovation, and service.
