Carigara, Leyte — Persons Deprived of Liberty (PDLs) at the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) Carigara District Jail took a meaningful step toward social reintegration by participating in a specialized learning session titled “Writing with Purpose: Crafting Effective Workplace Documents” on May 23, 2025.
The workshop was organized by the Extension Services Office of Eastern Visayas State University–Carigara Campus (EVSU-CC), led by Ms. Amelita A. Ariza. This initiative is part of the ongoing Literacy, Integration, Fitness, and Empowerment ( LIFE) Project, under the umbrella of EVSU’s HOPE (Holistic Outreach for Personal Empowerment) Program. The program is designed to equip PDLs with practical knowledge and employable skills, enhancing their confidence and readiness for reintegration into the workforce and broader society.
The session focused on developing professional writing skills, particularly the creation of resumes and workplace documents. Through interactive exercises, hands-on coaching, and expert facilitation, participants learned how to articulate their experiences, highlight their qualifications, and present themselves as capable and job-ready individuals.
“This workshop gave me hope,” shared one participant. “It helped me believe that I still have a future to work for.”
The successful implementation of the activity underscores the strong and sustained partnership between BJMP and EVSU-CC in advancing inclusive education. The collaboration is a testament to both institutions’ shared commitment to nation-building through education, empowerment.
“Education is a powerful tool in restoring dignity and unlocking potential,” said Ms. Ariza. “This is our way of extending the university’s reach beyond the classroom and into the lives of those who need it most.”
The initiative reflects the transformative power of community engagement in addressing social challenges, and it highlights the role of academic institutions in promoting restorative justice and inclusive growth.
